Psychotherapy Centre in the medicum Hamburg – when the psyche needs help

Every year about one third of all adults in Germany suffer from one or several psychological disorders. This means more than 16 million individuals. There are many causes: permanent stress, separation, unemployment, traumatic experiences or having to live with a chronic physical disease all take their toll on the psychological state of the human mind. On the other hand, psychological processes can have a detrimental effect on the body and influence the progress of physical diseases. Many people are able to overcome psychological problems without professional help. But if the difficulties persist and sufferers find they cannot handle the situation themselves, psychotherapy can be helpful. Psychotherapy is the treatment of psychological problems by means of an interactive process between therapist and patient. Scientifically based methods are used to bring about changes in the patient’s way of thinking, feeling, experiencing and acting.

Find the right type of therapy and the right psychotherapist for you

In the Psychotherapy Centre of the medicum Hamburg we offer cognitive behavioural therapy. This therapy helps with many psychological disorders, and consists of a large number of techniques which are well researched. The intention behind behavioural therapy is to help sufferers to help themselves.

Structured Therapy

The first five therapy hours are called “probatory” sessions. The aim of the therapist in these sessions is to carry out intensive diagnosis so that we can assess if therapy is indicated. These first sessions also give patients the opportunity to decide if they wish to continue working with this therapist. Following this procedure, an application for psychotherapy is made to the patient’s health insurance company (not for self-paying patients).
